A pathology result that comes in electronically lands in a doctor's inbox with a flag on it. The same result that comes by fax lands in a tray, and whether anyone sees it on Friday at 4:50 depends on who walks past.
Most pathology results are visible to patients on My Health Record immediately. Biopsies, cancer results, genetics, CT and MRI reports: a five-day delay. Since 1 July 2026 pathology and imaging are shared by default within 24 hours of reaching the practice. Five days sounds like room, until you picture the fax that arrived before a long weekend.
And the RACGP has just called, publicly, for hospitals to "finally get rid of faxes" in 2026. They will — eventually. Your hospitals will keep faxing you for years. The question is what happens at your end in the meantime.
The RACGP is not affiliated with, and does not endorse, Pear; figures are cited for reference.
Discharge summaries. Specialist reports. Blood results. Pathology. Every one of them addressed to a doctor and read first by whoever's on the front desk, who has to work out who it's for, whether it's urgent, and where it goes — between calls. 53% of GPs say better communication and information sharing is the single biggest thing that would improve coordination of care (RACGP Health of the Nation 2026). The fax tray is where coordination goes to wait.
Aria reads every inbound fax — and the clinical email that comes from labs and hospitals: pathology, blood results, discharge summaries, specialist reports — works out which patient and which doctor, writes the summary, pre-fills the details, names the sender, and flags anything urgent. The doctor sees it in their Bp inbox. And if an urgent item is still sitting after a time you set, Aria emails the practice manager directly. Your team still reviews every fax. Aria makes sure the ones that matter aren't the ones left sitting.

Plain statements, each one a procurement officer can check.
Switch it on and run it on a fortnight of what actually arrives. Count what got flagged, what got filed, and what the practice manager got warned about. Then decide.
